HONG-KONG : South Island Line is now completely revamped

More than 300 000 residents in Southern district of Hong Kong can now use the new South Island Line since 28^th of December 2016.

This new line runs in a combination of underground section and on elevated structures including 2 new stations at Ocean Park and Wong Chuk Hang, 1,9 km of new elevated viaduct and a new bridge of 247 meters spanned the Aberdeen Channel Bridge.

To realize this complex project, Atkins one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies, was awarded by MTR Corporation to face this challenge. “The project is particularly challenging, as we have to build an elevated railway lies on the densely populated Hong-Kong island” stated John Blackwood, Atkins’ Director for Transport in Asia Pacific.

Another key aspect, the visual impacts were treated sensitively, the noise barrier design is fully integrated with the overhead line and trackside auxiliary system, reducing in the overall width and height of the railway viaduct.
