Chinese consortium wins $2.1bn railway project in southern Malaysia

A Chinese consortium, including China Railway Construction Corporation, China Railway Group and China Communications Construction Company has won a $2.1bn contract for a railway project in southern Malaysia.

The newly-built electric double-track railway will stretch from Gemas Station to Johor Bahru Central Station. The project will cover 191km of tracks, nine new passenger stations, two rolling stock depots and three open stations.

The scope of the project includes the design, construction, material supply, installation, completion, testing, trial operation and maintenance.

The full line, with a designed speed of 160kmph, will be covered by meter-gauge ballast seamless tracks.
