Odebrecht banned in Panama

In Panama, the government has announced that the Brazilian construction group Odebrecht will now be banned from tendering on Panamanian territory due to corruption.

The government of Panama announced to the press that it had taken "the necessary measures to prohibit the award of public contracts and the signing of contracts with the Odebrecht Group for future tenders." Convicted of corruption to win contracts in several countries, the company will collaborate in investigations by the prosecution and, until "it guarantees the payment of the sums to be restituted to the State, " said Alvaro Aleman, Chief of Staff of the Presidency.

For the record, Odebrecht recognized their responsibility to the US authorities in the Petrobras case and their guilt in corruption cases in Brazil and abroad. In Panama, the company will be withdrawn from several calls for tender that it had won, notably for the construction of a new metro line in the capital, a 4th bridge over the Panama Canal and a hydroelectric power plant.
