Since November 2014, operations at the Koolan Island mine, located in Western Australia, are suspended. Few time after the cessation, a seawall failure caused flood at the pit. However, the site is now about to operate again as Mount Gibson is currently managing a $97M redevelopment and restart project.

In a feasibility study, Mount Gibson has highlighted a 3.5-year mine life for the Koolan Island opeartion.
During the construction phase, the project is expected to create eighty jobs and around 315 employees and contractors may work on the site during the production.
The project includes seawall construction and pit dewatering work and is worth $97M. Twenty-four months are required before the mine to be operational. Mount Gibson is using the existing mine infrastructure and mining fleet. First ore sales are planned for 2019.
