The project is the creation of Deere and Designworks, a BMW Group subsidiary.

According to John Deere, Fixstern is fulfilling customer demand for backhoes: more cab space. In the Fixstern concept, the manufacturer is using four equal-sized airless radial tires to increase the length of the wheel base. Stabilizers have been moved from behind the rear wheels to the front while hybrid diesel-electric drive train helps lower the center the gravity and reduce the weight of the machine.
