Thales upgrades the Metro Red Line in Dubai

As part of the World Expo 2020 in Dubai, Thales the world leader in signaling system has been selected by Alstom-led consortium Expolink composed of Acciona and Gulemak and Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) to upgrade the metro Red Line, one of the longest driverless metro lines in the world.

Thales will provide the system’s extension on 15 km on the route called Route 2020, and it will include seven stations currently under construction to connect the existing network with the World Expo 2020 site.

Thales should provide a state-of-the-art driverless train signaling technology and upgrade supervision, telecommunications, passengers’ services, security and fare collection systems. Note that the metro Red Line will be used by the 25 million visitors expected at World Expo 2020, and with these innovative solutions will contribute to save energy consumption, to smooth passenger flows and improve thus IT connectivity.

This project is a major milestone of this futuristic city, and it will definitely contribute to Dubaï’s objective to become the “smartest” city in the world.
