Yanmar revisits Nikolai Quartier in Hamburg

A Yanmar mini excavator of 2.5 t with zero tail swing helps restructuring the Nikolai Quartier in the city of Hamburg. With its compact dimensions, the ViO25 is the ideal machine for working in the city center.

Osbahr, specializing in gardening and landscaping, uses the ViO25 for road works. Since February 2016, the machine is working near the town hall of Hamburg and participates in the rehabilitation of side streets on both sides. It is about to enlarge the pavement and to improve the appearance of the downtown.

To ensure that the road remains accessible to traffic, the Yanmar ViO25 has to have a very compact dimension. Thanks to its zero tail swing, the machine is not retained by an overweight in the rear. Its small swing radius and its narrow width allow the machine to gain a maximum performance in a working radius of only 2.5 m.

Equipped with a digging bucket, it breaks the base layer of the pavement and digs the ground. Then it fills a new base layer with a ditch-cleaning bucket. After, high-quality concrete block is then laid on the new base layer. The construction work in the Grosser Burstah area began at the end of October 2015, and it is now continuing in Grosse Johannisstrasse, Kleiner Burstah and Moenkedamm.

The business district of Nikolai is one of the largest in Germany. It is located between Rathausmarkt in the Northeast, Rödingsmarkt in the West and Willy-Brandt-Strasse in the South. The current restructuring project represents an investment of
€ 9.3 million. It will be completed by mid-2019.
