Since July 2016, the Liebherr HS 8130 HD crawler excavator operates in the Swiss Alps. It is used to dredge large quantities of sediment on the filter grids of the Lake Luzzone reservoir. At depths of up to 200 m, 125 000 m3 of sediment accumulated in the immediate vicinity of the Olivone plant, which will only be reactivated after the material has been completely removed. The importance of this project is due to the fact that 180 million cubic meters of water flow each year between the turbines of the Olivone generating station and producing 234,000 MWh of energy.
