Martin Herrenknecht receives the Werner von Siemens Ring

In Germany, Martin Herrenknecht was awarded the Werner von Siemens Ring, one of the most prestigious engineering awards in the world.

The Werner von Siemens Ring Foundation emphasized its ability to innovate in the development of tunneling and honored its pioneering spirit in the realization of innovative engineering projects in traditional digging.

Among the key projects are the Gotthard base tunnel in Switzerland, where four Herrenknecht tunnel boring machines have dug more than 85 km of tunnels in Switzerland. In Turkey, Herrenknecht also distinguished itself on the Eurasian tunnel dug 106 m under the Bosphorus by a tunnel boring machine with a diameter of 13.66 m.

Finally, in Doha, 21 tunnel boring machines were activated to make 76 breakthroughs in 26 months as part of the construction of 111 km of metro. A giant Herrenknecht tunnel boring machine (560 t and 17.6 m in diameter) has also begun its mission in Hong Kong in 2015. Today, it has dug 646 m of galleries for a new road under the Pearl River Delta.
