The Maritsa Iztok coal mine, on the outskirts of the province of Staza Zagora, evacuate the material generated by the extraction of millions of tons of coal every year. This fossil energy represents about 30% of electricity production in Bulgaria. The Maritsa Iztok mine is currently the largest extraction site in South-East Europe with a production of 23 million tons of coal per year.
