The speculative tower, dubbed Analemma Tower, would be suspended from an orbiting asteroid and hangs towards the ground instead of springing up from the Earth towards the sky.

The asteroid’s geosynchronous orbit would match earth’s sidereal rotation period of one day which would cause the tower to trace a figure-8 shape and return to the same position in the sky each day.
Obviously, the space-based tower won’t be constructed any time soon as the proposal is offered as a ’thought exercise’ for the future.
