The 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor will have a 21 km long tunnel under the sea. The project is estimated to cost about Rs 97,636 crore (about $14.5 bn), 80 per cent of which will be funded from a loan from Japan.

Work on the new rail corridor is expected to commence in 2018 and be completed by 2023.
