Produced in Colmar, the crawler excavators R 980 SME, weighing near 100 t, generates an engine power of 420 kW and complies with the exhaust emissions of Stage IIIB / Tier 4i. In the limestone quarry operated by Pongratz Schotterwerk, this crawler excavator is equipped with an HD bucket 6 m3, allowing the machine to crush huge blocks of rock with a ball "crack block" in order to give them adequate size, and then to be loaded into the truck feeding the crusher. It reaches an output of 400 t / h.
