Suez irrigates the Olmos valley in Peru

Suez and its partner Brookfield Infrastructure have signed an agreement to acquire H2Olmos (H2O) and Concesionaria Trasvase Olmos (CTO) in Peru. These companies are in charge of concessions to irrigate the Olmos valley.

Located in an arid region of Peru, the valley of Olmos is extremely affected by the drought which limits the agricultural production. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Peruvian government and the regional authorities have therefore undertaken a huge irrigation infrastructure project. It includes the diversion of the waters of the Huancabamba River, from the Atlantic slope to the Pacific slope. This operation was the subject of a PPP granted to CTP for the construction, operation and maintenance of the Limón dam, as well as a 20 km tunnel under the Andes. In the second phase, H2Olmos supported the construction, operation and maintenance of the irrigation system as well as the development of 43,500 hectares of arable land under a PFI.

The agreement between Suez and Brookfield Infrastructure provides for the operation and maintenance of these infrastructures. These two concessions, granted for 20 years, will end in 2025 and 2035 respectively and may be renewed. These activities will generate a turnover of approximately € 120 million.
