Germany: Atlas takes on waterways

An Atlas excavator equipped with Atlas grabs and buckets is used by WSA Verden (German waterways) to reinforce and clean the banks or to handle materials from a pontoon.

The Wasserstrassen- und Schifffahrtsamt Verden (WSA Verden) equipped the Atlas 340 LC with a clamsheel bucket E 75.32 with a capacity of 1 000 liters, a peel grap with 5 grippers

E 772 with a capacity of 800 liters, a G742 ditch bucket with a width of 2 200 mm, an E 624 / 2V wood grap with a capacity of 1 000 liters and a K 710 SW load hook capable of lifting up to 8 t. These tools demonstrate the ability to perform the jobs, and therefore being deprived for the maintenance of the 333 km of waterways in Germany.

Its tasks include reinforcing the banks, transporting shoring elements, loading and unloading materials, etc. These missions are executed from the Schwarmstedt pontoon based in Hoya. The special feature of this 35 t excavator is its telescopic drive unit, which can be expanded hydraulically by 700 mm on each side.

When retracted, the machine has an overall width of 3,150 mm and 4,550 mm when it is deployed. It also has a boom with its 4,500 mm jib and a versatile hydraulic attachment kit.
