Nicknamed AME (Additive Manufactured Excavator), the excavator is currently being printed in 3D at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) where they creates and assembles three elements: the cab, boom and a heat exchanger . The arm of the excavator will be manufactured using a new technique devoted to print the metal components on a large scale.
